Emerald City Now A Sold-out Success!

It seems like only yesterday that I started writing about Emerald City, the phenomenal master-planned community in North York that became a city-within-a-city and is now completely sold out! Since being introduced in 2008, this collection of nine condominiums has changed the face of the Don Mills-Sheppard Avenue intersection for the better. The area was already home to Fairview Mall, which has nearly 200 stores, restaurants, cinemas and services, plus the Don Mills station on the Sheppard subway line. In 2008, the mall underwent a $90 million renovation to satisfy the needs of the area’s expanding population. Located steps to this well-loved destination, Emerald City has another distinction of being situated on property that is one of North York’s highest elevations – offering outstanding views.

Providing a complete lifestyle, Emerald City features 3,000 condominium residences, as well as 300 units in purpose-built rental buildings. Residents make great use of the Parkway Forest Community Centre, which features a running track, gym, dance studios, YMCA-run daycare, a 5,000 square-foot aquatic centre with an outdoor pool, and a 13-acre family park with children’s playground. This complex was developed in collaboration with the City of Toronto and opened in 2015.

One of the most distinguishing features about the community is “The Four Seasons,” the fabulous art installation by Douglas Coupland, which adds a colourful touch of whimsy to the surroundings. Six of the condos are occupied, and construction on the final three is nearing completion. The overall look is both striking and cohesive, thanks to WZMH Architects (for the condominium buildings) and Diamond Schmitt Architects (for the LEED-certified community centre).
