Spring Economic Update Bodes Well For Canada
The recent budget update released by our Canadian government brought welcome news about the country’s economy (bit.ly/4w6ea64). Of special interest to the new home building industry is the launch of “Team Canada Strong,” which will recruit, train and hire up to 100,000 new Red Seal skilled trades workers by 2030-2031. In addition, an additional $3.4 billion will be provided over five years will go toward funding apprenticeships, helping apprentices to overcome challenges to finishing their programs and move into their new jobs. These new skilled workers will have careers in housing, major infrastructure and defence projects. As the market heats up, we will need this new blood.
The budget update includes investments in the programs and services that are important for Canadians to feel part of their communities. This includes $755 million to expand access to sport for all Canadians, including our world-class athletes. The government also pledges to protect childcare, dental care and pharmacare. Combined with the recent announcements about the HST rebate and lower development charges, as well as the Bank of Canada holding the rate at 2.5 per cent, all of this good news is helping to enhance consumer confidence in our economy in general and the future of our new home industry. At Baker, we are already seeing an increase in traffic and sales. Things are looking up!
